Let's Visit the Zoo!

A great way to practice the alphabet is naming animals! But why not work both the brain and body?

Below are a few fun animal named exercises that can keep your family active and learning!

We’ll start off with some ideas by using the letter F!

The Falcon; Bird Flaps

In a standing position, tuck your fingers underneath your armpits so that your elbows flare out.

Flap your arms like a falcon, with big wide movements.

The Flamingo; One-Leg Balance

Like a flamingo, start by standing on one leg; to help with your balance, you can hold onto the back of a sturdy chair.

Lift your foot about an inch off the floor and balance on one foot.

Hold for 10-15 seconds. Repeat for 10 times and begin again using the alternate leg.

The Frog; Jump Squats

Start by standing with your feet shoulder width apart. Lower into a squatting position with your arms at your side.

Jump up and forward in an explosive motion. Try to land about 2 feet in front of your starting position.

As you land, bend your knees and sit back into your hips to help absorb the shock from landing.

Get ready in position for your next jump, but this time jump backwards about 2 feet to land where you had started.

Keep this forward/ backwards cycle going for about 20 times.

To lower the intensity of this exercise while still working similar muscles, try simply squatting or jump squats in one position.

For a challenge, try power jumps by brining your knees to your chest when in the air!
